Someone's Story

My mum bumped into her primary schoolmate yesterday, they talked the whole afternoon and my mum told me the followings:-

  1. The man and his wife came to HK 20 years ago, knowing no English and were just 阿燦.
  2. The man was extremely indulgent in computer and photography, but he made losses to his business in repairing cameras.
  3. The man was at the verge of bankruptcy while his wife was gaining success in her career.
  4. His wife was a very good business woman who made herself the CEO of a well known advertising company over years.
  5. She even had admirer who bought her expensive swallow nest and picked her up in Rolls Royce.
  6. They divorsed years ago, the lawyer is 謝偉俊.
  7. Bit by bit he earned his reputation as photographer for celebrities, and now the professor for computer in University.
  8. Now he had the money and a career, but he lost a family.

Mismatch of events will lead to different outcomes. While he was trying hard to earn better money for the family, he used all his time available to learn the jargons of computer in English, to master every function in the software. He missed the growing up of his son and overlooked the affections deserved by his wife. Still, he did not make a success...... yet.

She was disappointed at the continued failures for years, and could no longer endure the loneliness, she decided to take the lead. Gradually she felt she could do much better than a housewife. The more respect and money she earned at work, more she despises the man at home. They decided to end the unhappy marriage peacefully, no fight, no argument. Just signed in front of the famous lawyer, she took the son, and he took whatever was left.

He devoted his hours fully to photography and computer, his talent was discovered professors in the University, they offered him the teaching position, he earned a handsome salary as professor, and even more luring income as freelance photographer. But all came too late...

My mum got the photo album and showed me the collection he took for me in the park while I was 2 years old. His wife and my dad were also there... 20 years later, only one family left and 2 divorced people with successful careers.

I left my mum for her own contemplation with the photos, and appreciate more of her stern believe in marriage and faith in maintaining a family. Though she scolds, curses and shouts, she does not abandon the family, nor allows it to be torn apart, regardless of countless attacks and crisis.
